The City of Frankfort is part of the Kentucky Pollutant Discharge Elimination System with the goal of reducing and eliminating pollutants discharging to our waterways. This permit provides guidelines and six minimum control measures which must be implemented continuously and reported on an annual basis. 

Minimum Control Measures

The six minimum control measures required under the KPDES permit are:

  • Public Education and Outreach
  • Public Involvement and Participation
  • Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination
  • Construction Site Stormwater Runoff Control
  • Post Construction Stormwater Management
  • Good Housekeeping in Municipal Operations

Implementing each aspect of the permit helps reduce pollutants from discharging to our waterways such as:

  • Sediment
  • Motor Oil
  • Pet Waste
  • Fertilizer
  • Litter/Trash
